Increasing Human Body Size and Its Physical and Environmental Ramifications

Abstract

This article reviews various factors related to increasing body size and its impact on chronic disease and longevity. The health and environmental impacts of high birth weight, rapid growth, early maturation, early adiposity, and adult obesity are also covered. Additionally, the biological mechanisms that produce the differences in longevity between tall and short people are identified and explained.
